What should we do on Rosh Chodesh Tamuz?

ר

רְאֵֽה־עָנְיִ֥י וְחַלְּצֵ֑נִי כִּי־תֽ֝וֹרָתְךָ֗ לֹ֣א שָׁכָֽחְתִּי׃

See my affliction and rescue me, for I have not neglected Your teaching.

רִיבָ֣ה רִ֭יבִי וּגְאָלֵ֑נִי לְאִמְרָתְךָ֥ חַיֵּֽנִי׃

Champion my cause and redeem me; preserve me according to Your promise.

רָח֣וֹק מֵרְשָׁעִ֣ים יְשׁוּעָ֑ה כִּֽי־חֻ֝קֶּיךָ לֹ֣א דָרָֽשׁוּ׃

Deliverance is far from the wicked, for they have not turned to Your laws.

רַחֲמֶ֖יךָ רַבִּ֥ים ׀ יְהוָ֑ה כְּֽמִשְׁפָּטֶ֥יךָ חַיֵּֽנִי׃

Your mercies are great, O LORD; as is Your rule, preserve me.

רַ֭בִּים רֹדְפַ֣י וְצָרָ֑י מֵ֝עֵדְוֺתֶ֗יךָ לֹ֣א נָטִֽיתִי׃

Many are my persecutors and foes; I have not swerved from Your decrees.

רָאִ֣יתִי בֹ֭גְדִים וָֽאֶתְקוֹטָ֑טָה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִ֝מְרָתְךָ֗ לֹ֣א שָׁמָֽרוּ׃

I have seen traitors and loathed them, because they did not keep Your word in mind.

רְ֭אֵה כִּי־פִקּוּדֶ֣יךָ אָהָ֑בְתִּי יְ֝הוָ֗ה כְּֽחַסְדְּךָ֥ חַיֵּֽנִי׃

See that I have loved Your precepts; O LORD, preserve me, as befits Your steadfast love.

רֹאשׁ־דְּבָרְךָ֥ אֱמֶ֑ת וּ֝לְעוֹלָ֗ם כָּל־מִשְׁפַּ֥ט צִדְקֶֽךָ׃

Truth is the essence of Your word; Your just rules are eternal.

ב

בַּמֶּ֣ה יְזַכֶּה־נַּ֭עַר אֶת־אָרְח֑וֹ לִ֝שְׁמֹ֗ר כִּדְבָרֶֽךָ׃

How can a young man keep his way pure?— by holding to Your word.

בְּכָל־לִבִּ֥י דְרַשְׁתִּ֑יךָ אַל־תַּ֝שְׁגֵּ֗נִי מִמִּצְוֺתֶֽיךָ׃

I have turned to You with all my heart; do not let me stray from Your commandments.

בְּ֭לִבִּי צָפַ֣נְתִּי אִמְרָתֶ֑ךָ לְ֝מַ֗עַן לֹ֣א אֶֽחֱטָא־לָֽךְ׃

In my heart I treasure Your promise; therefore I do not sin against You.

בָּר֖וּךְ אַתָּ֥ה יְהוָ֗ה לַמְּדֵ֥נִי חֻקֶּֽיךָ׃

Blessed are You, O LORD; train me in Your laws.

בִּשְׂפָתַ֥י סִפַּ֑רְתִּי כֹּ֝֗ל מִשְׁפְּטֵי־פִֽיךָ׃

With my lips I rehearse all the rules You proclaimed.

בְּדֶ֖רֶךְ עֵדְוֺתֶ֥יךָ שַׂ֗שְׂתִּי כְּעַ֣ל כָּל־הֽוֹן׃

I rejoice over the way of Your decrees as over all riches.

בְּפִקֻּדֶ֥יךָ אָשִׂ֑יחָה וְ֝אַבִּ֗יטָה אֹרְחֹתֶֽיךָ׃

I study Your precepts; I regard Your ways;

בְּחֻקֹּתֶ֥יךָ אֶֽשְׁתַּעֲשָׁ֑ע לֹ֭א אֶשְׁכַּ֣ח דְּבָרֶֽךָ׃

I take delight in Your laws; I will not neglect Your word.

י

יָדֶ֣יךָ עָ֭שׂוּנִי וַֽיְכוֹנְנ֑וּנִי הֲ֝בִינֵ֗נִי וְאֶלְמְדָ֥ה מִצְוֺתֶֽיךָ׃

Your hands made me and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn Your commandments.

יְ֭רֵאֶיךָ יִרְא֣וּנִי וְיִשְׂמָ֑חוּ כִּ֖י לִדְבָרְךָ֣ יִחָֽלְתִּי׃

Those who fear You will see me and rejoice, for I have put my hope in Your word.

יָדַ֣עְתִּי יְ֭הוָה כִּי־צֶ֣דֶק מִשְׁפָּטֶ֑יךָ וֶ֝אֱמוּנָ֗ה עִנִּיתָֽנִי׃

I know, O LORD, that Your rulings are just; rightly have You humbled me.

יְהִי־נָ֣א חַסְדְּךָ֣ לְנַחֲמֵ֑נִי כְּאִמְרָתְךָ֥ לְעַבְדֶּֽךָ׃

May Your steadfast love comfort me in accordance with Your promise to Your servant.

יְבֹא֣וּנִי רַחֲמֶ֣יךָ וְאֶֽחְיֶ֑ה כִּי־תֽ֝וֹרָתְךָ֗ שַֽׁעֲשֻׁעָֽי׃

May Your mercy reach me, that I might live, for Your teaching is my delight.

יֵבֹ֣שׁוּ זֵ֭דִים כִּי־שֶׁ֣קֶר עִוְּת֑וּנִי אֲ֝נִ֗י אָשִׂ֥יחַ בְּפִקּוּדֶֽיךָ׃

Let the insolent be dismayed, for they have wronged me without cause; I will study Your precepts.

יָשׁ֣וּבוּ לִ֣י יְרֵאֶ֑יךָ וידעו [וְ֝יֹדְעֵ֗י] עֵדֹתֶֽיךָ׃

May those who fear You, those who know Your decrees, turn again to me.

יְהִֽי־לִבִּ֣י תָמִ֣ים בְּחֻקֶּ֑יךָ לְ֝מַ֗עַן לֹ֣א אֵבֽוֹשׁ׃

May I wholeheartedly follow Your laws so that I do not come to

מ

מָֽה־אָהַ֥בְתִּי תוֹרָתֶ֑ךָ כָּל־הַ֝יּ֗וֹם הִ֣יא שִׂיחָתִֽי׃

O how I love Your teaching! It is my study all day long.

מֵ֭אֹ֣יְבַי תְּחַכְּמֵ֣נִי מִצְוֺתֶ֑ךָ כִּ֖י לְעוֹלָ֣ם הִיא־לִֽי׃

Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies; they always stand by me.

מִכָּל־מְלַמְּדַ֥י הִשְׂכַּ֑לְתִּי כִּ֥י עֵ֝דְוֺתֶ֗יךָ שִׂ֣יחָה לִֽֿי׃

I have gained more insight than all my teachers, for Your decrees are my study.

מִזְּקֵנִ֥ים אֶתְבּוֹנָ֑ן כִּ֖י פִקּוּדֶ֣יךָ נָצָֽרְתִּי׃

I have gained more understanding than my elders, for I observe Your precepts.

מִכָּל־אֹ֣רַח רָ֭ע כָּלִ֣אתִי רַגְלָ֑י לְ֝מַ֗עַן אֶשְׁמֹ֥ר דְּבָרֶֽךָ׃

I have avoided every evil way so that I may keep Your word.

מִמִּשְׁפָּטֶ֥יךָ לֹא־סָ֑רְתִּי כִּֽי־אַ֝תָּ֗ה הוֹרֵתָֽנִי׃

I have not departed from Your rules, for You have instructed me.

מַה־נִּמְלְצ֣וּ לְ֭חִכִּי אִמְרָתֶ֗ךָ מִדְּבַ֥שׁ לְפִֽי׃

How pleasing is Your word to my palate, sweeter than honey.

מִפִּקּוּדֶ֥יךָ אֶתְבּוֹנָ֑ן עַל־כֵּ֝֗ן שָׂנֵ֤אתִי ׀ כָּל־אֹ֬רַח שָֽׁקֶר׃

I ponder Your precepts; therefore I hate every false way.

א

אַשְׁרֵ֥י תְמִֽימֵי־דָ֑רֶךְ הַֽ֝הֹלְכִ֗ים בְּתוֹרַ֥ת יְהוָֽה׃

Happy are those whose way is blameless, who follow the teaching of the LORD.

אַ֭שְׁרֵי נֹצְרֵ֥י עֵדֹתָ֗יו בְּכָל־לֵ֥ב יִדְרְשֽׁוּהוּ׃

Happy are those who observe His decrees, who turn to Him wholeheartedly.

אַ֭ף לֹֽא־פָעֲל֣וּ עַוְלָ֑ה בִּדְרָכָ֥יו הָלָֽכוּ׃

They have done no wrong, but have followed His ways.

אַ֭תָּה צִוִּ֥יתָה פִקֻּדֶ֗יךָ לִשְׁמֹ֥ר מְאֹֽד׃

You have commanded that Your precepts be kept diligently.

אַ֭חֲלַי יִכֹּ֥נוּ דְרָכָ֗י לִשְׁמֹ֥ר חֻקֶּֽיךָ׃

Would that my ways were firm in keeping Your laws;

אָ֥ז לֹא־אֵב֑וֹשׁ בְּ֝הַבִּיטִ֗י אֶל־כָּל־מִצְוֺתֶֽיךָ׃

then I would not be ashamed when I regard all Your commandments.

א֭וֹדְךָ בְּיֹ֣שֶׁר לֵבָ֑ב בְּ֝לָמְדִ֗י מִשְׁפְּטֵ֥י צִדְקֶֽךָ׃

I will praise You with a sincere heart as I learn Your just rules.

אֶת־חֻקֶּ֥יךָ אֶשְׁמֹ֑ר אַֽל־תַּעַזְבֵ֥נִי עַד־מְאֹֽד׃

I will keep Your laws; do not utterly forsake me.

י

יָדֶ֣יךָ עָ֭שׂוּנִי וַֽיְכוֹנְנ֑וּנִי הֲ֝בִינֵ֗נִי וְאֶלְמְדָ֥ה מִצְוֺתֶֽיךָ׃

ע

עָ֭שִׂיתִי מִשְׁפָּ֣ט וָצֶ֑דֶק בַּל־תַּ֝נִּיחֵ֗נִי לְעֹֽשְׁקָֽי׃

I have done what is just and right; do not abandon me to those who would wrong me.

עֲרֹ֣ב עַבְדְּךָ֣ לְט֑וֹב אַֽל־יַעַשְׁקֻ֥נִי זֵדִֽים׃

Guarantee Your servant’s well-being; do not let the arrogant wrong me.

עֵ֭ינַי כָּל֣וּ לִֽישׁוּעָתֶ֑ךָ וּלְאִמְרַ֥ת צִדְקֶֽךָ׃

My eyes pine away for Your deliverance, for Your promise of victory.

עֲשֵׂ֖ה עִם־עַבְדְּךָ֥ כְחַסְדֶּ֗ךָ וְחֻקֶּ֥יךָ לַמְּדֵֽנִי׃

Deal with Your servant as befits Your steadfast love; teach me Your laws.

עַבְדְּךָ־אָ֥נִי הֲבִינֵ֑נִי וְ֝אֵדְעָ֗ה עֵדֹתֶֽיךָ׃

I am Your servant; give me understanding, that I might know Your decrees.

עֵ֭ת לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת לַיהוָ֑ה הֵ֝פֵ֗רוּ תּוֹרָתֶֽךָ׃

It is a time to act for the LORD, for they have violated Your teaching.

עַל־כֵּ֭ן אָהַ֣בְתִּי מִצְוֺתֶ֑יךָ מִזָּהָ֥ב וּמִפָּֽז׃

Rightly do I love Your commandments more than gold, even fine gold.

עַל־כֵּ֤ן ׀ כָּל־פִּקּ֣וּדֵי כֹ֣ל יִשָּׁ֑רְתִּי כָּל־אֹ֖רַח שֶׁ֣קֶר שָׂנֵֽאתִי׃

Truly by all [Your] precepts I walk straight; I hate every

false way.

ל

לְעוֹלָ֥ם יְהוָ֑ה דְּ֝בָרְךָ֗ נִצָּ֥ב בַּשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

The LORD exists forever; Your word stands firm in heaven.

לְדֹ֣ר וָ֭דֹר אֱמֽוּנָתֶ֑ךָ כּוֹנַ֥נְתָּ אֶ֝֗רֶץ וַֽתַּעֲמֹֽד׃

Your faithfulness is for all generations; You have established the earth, and it stands.

לְֽ֭מִשְׁפָּטֶיךָ עָמְד֣וּ הַיּ֑וֹם כִּ֖י הַכֹּ֣ל עֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃

They stand this day to [carry out] Your rulings, for all are Your servants.

לוּלֵ֣י ת֭וֹרָתְךָ שַׁעֲשֻׁעָ֑י אָ֝֗ז אָבַ֥דְתִּי בְעָנְיִֽי׃

Were not Your teaching my delight I would have perished in my affliction.

לְ֭עוֹלָם לֹא־אֶשְׁכַּ֣ח פִּקּוּדֶ֑יךָ כִּ֥י בָ֝֗ם חִיִּיתָֽנִי׃

I will never neglect Your precepts, for You have preserved my life through them.

לְֽךָ־אֲ֭נִי הוֹשִׁיעֵ֑נִי כִּ֖י פִקּוּדֶ֣יךָ דָרָֽשְׁתִּי׃

I am Yours; save me! For I have turned to Your precepts.

לִ֤י קִוּ֣וּ רְשָׁעִ֣ים לְאַבְּדֵ֑נִי עֵ֝דֹתֶ֗יךָ אֶתְבּוֹנָֽן׃

The wicked hope to destroy me, but I ponder Your decrees.

לְֽכָל תִּ֭כְלָה רָאִ֣יתִי קֵ֑ץ רְחָבָ֖ה מִצְוָתְךָ֣ מְאֹֽד׃

I have seen that all things have their limit, but Your commandment is broad beyond measure.

ה

הוֹרֵ֣נִי יְ֭הוָה דֶּ֥רֶךְ חֻקֶּ֗יךָ וְאֶצְּרֶ֥נָּה עֵֽקֶב׃

Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your laws; I will observe them to the utmost.

הֲ֭בִינֵנִי וְאֶצְּרָ֥ה תֽוֹרָתֶ֗ךָ וְאֶשְׁמְרֶ֥נָּה בְכָל־לֵֽב׃

Give me understanding, that I may observe Your teaching and keep it wholeheartedly.

הַ֭דְרִיכֵנִי בִּנְתִ֣יב מִצְוֺתֶ֑יךָ כִּי־ב֥וֹ חָפָֽצְתִּי׃

Lead me in the path of Your commandments, for that is my concern.

הַט־לִ֭בִּי אֶל־עֵדְוֺתֶ֗יךָ וְאַ֣ל אֶל־בָּֽצַע׃

Turn my heart to Your decrees and not to love of gain.

הַעֲבֵ֣ר עֵ֭ינַי מֵרְא֣וֹת שָׁ֑וְא בִּדְרָכֶ֥ךָ חַיֵּֽנִי׃

Avert my eyes from seeing falsehood; by Your ways preserve me.

הָקֵ֣ם לְ֭עַבְדְּךָ אִמְרָתֶ֑ךָ אֲ֝שֶׁ֗ר לְיִרְאָתֶֽךָ׃

Fulfill Your promise to Your servant, which is for those who worship You.

הַעֲבֵ֣ר חֶ֭רְפָּתִי אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָגֹ֑רְתִּי כִּ֖י מִשְׁפָּטֶ֣יךָ טוֹבִֽים׃

Remove the taunt that I dread, for Your rules are good.

הִ֭נֵּה תָּאַ֣בְתִּי לְפִקֻּדֶ֑יךָ בְּצִדְקָתְךָ֥ חַיֵּֽנִי׃

See, I have longed for Your precepts; by Your righteousness preserve me.

נ

נֵר־לְרַגְלִ֥י דְבָרֶ֑ךָ וְ֝א֗וֹר לִנְתִיבָתִֽי׃

Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light for my path.

נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתִּי וָאֲקַיֵּ֑מָה לִ֝שְׁמֹ֗ר מִשְׁפְּטֵ֥י צִדְקֶֽךָ׃

I have firmly sworn to keep Your just rules.

נַעֲנֵ֥יתִי עַד־מְאֹ֑ד יְ֝הוָ֗ה חַיֵּ֥נִי כִדְבָרֶֽךָ׃

I am very much afflicted; O LORD, preserve me in accordance with Your word.

נִדְב֣וֹת פִּ֭י רְצֵה־נָ֣א יְהוָ֑ה וּֽמִשְׁפָּטֶ֥יךָ לַמְּדֵֽנִי׃

Accept, O LORD, my freewill offerings; teach me Your rules.

נַפְשִׁ֣י בְכַפִּ֣י תָמִ֑יד וְ֝תֽוֹרָתְךָ֗ לֹ֣א שָׁכָֽחְתִּי׃

Though my life is always in danger, I do not neglect Your teaching.

נָתְנ֬וּ רְשָׁעִ֣ים פַּ֣ח לִ֑י וּ֝מִפִּקּוּדֶ֗יךָ לֹ֣א תָעִֽיתִי׃

Though the wicked have set a trap for me, I have not strayed from Your precepts.

נָחַ֣לְתִּי עֵדְוֺתֶ֣יךָ לְעוֹלָ֑ם כִּֽי־שְׂשׂ֖וֹן לִבִּ֣י הֵֽמָּה׃

Your decrees are my eternal heritage; they are my heart’s delight.

נָטִ֣יתִי לִ֭בִּי לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת חֻקֶּ֗יךָ לְעוֹלָ֥ם עֵֽקֶב׃

I am resolved to follow Your laws to the utmost forever.

ס

סֵעֲפִ֥ים שָׂנֵ֑אתִי וְֽתוֹרָתְךָ֥ אָהָֽבְתִּי׃

I hate men of divided heart, but I love Your teaching.

סִתְרִ֣י וּמָגִנִּ֣י אָ֑תָּה לִדְבָרְךָ֥ יִחָֽלְתִּי׃

You are my protection and my shield; I hope for Your word.

סֽוּרוּ־מִמֶּ֥נִּי מְרֵעִ֑ים וְ֝אֶצְּרָ֗ה מִצְוֺ֥ת אֱלֹהָֽי׃

Keep away from me, you evildoers, that I may observe the commandments of my God.

סָמְכֵ֣נִי כְאִמְרָתְךָ֣ וְאֶֽחְיֶ֑ה וְאַל־תְּ֝בִישֵׁ֗נִי מִשִּׂבְרִֽי׃

Support me as You promised, so that I may live; do not thwart my expectation.

סְעָדֵ֥נִי וְאִוָּשֵׁ֑עָה וְאֶשְׁעָ֖ה בְחֻקֶּ֣יךָ תָמִֽיד׃

Sustain me that I may be saved, and I will always muse upon Your laws.

סָ֭לִיתָ כָּל־שׁוֹגִ֣ים מֵחֻקֶּ֑יךָ כִּי־שֶׁ֝֗קֶר תַּרְמִיתָֽם׃

You reject all who stray from Your laws, for they are false and deceitful.

סִגִ֗ים הִשְׁבַּ֥תָּ כָל־רִשְׁעֵי־אָ֑רֶץ לָ֝כֵ֗ן אָהַ֥בְתִּי עֵדֹתֶֽיךָ׃

You do away with the wicked as if they were dross; rightly do I love Your decrees.

סָמַ֣ר מִפַּחְדְּךָ֣ בְשָׂרִ֑י וּֽמִמִּשְׁפָּטֶ֥יךָ יָרֵֽאתִי׃

My flesh creeps from fear of You; I am in awe of Your rulings.

A psalm, a song of Asaph

אֱלֹהִ֥ים אַל־דֳּמִי־לָ֑ךְ אַל־תֶּֽחֱרַ֖שׁ וְאַל־תִּשְׁקֹ֣ט אֵֽל:

O God, have no silence, do not be silent and do not be still, O God

כִּי־הִנֵּ֣ה אֽ֖וֹיְבֶיךָ יֶֽהֱמָי֑וּן וּ֜מְשַׂנְאֶ֗יךָ נָ֣שְׂאוּ רֹֽאשׁ

For behold, Your enemies stir, and those who hate You raise their heads

עַל־עַ֖מְּךָ יַֽעֲרִ֣ימוּ ס֑וֹד וְ֜יִֽתְיָֽעֲצ֗וּ עַל־צְפוּנֶֽיךָ

Against Your people they plot cunningly, and they take counsel against Your protected ones

אָֽמְר֗וּ לְכ֣וּ וְנַכְחִידֵ֣ם מִגּ֑וֹי וְלֹֽא־יִזָּכֵ֖ר שֵׁם־יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל עֽוֹד

They said, “Come, let us destroy them from [being] a nation, and the name of Israel will no longer be remembered.”

כִּ֚י נֽוֹעֲצ֣וּ לֵ֣ב יַחְדָּ֑ו עָ֜לֶ֗יךָ בְּרִ֣ית יִכְרֹֽתוּ

For they have taken counsel with one accord; against You they form a pact

אָֽהֳלֵ֣י אֱ֖דוֹם וְיִשְׁמְעֵאלִ֑ים מוֹאָ֥ב וְהַגְרִֽים

The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites

גְּבָ֣ל וְ֖עַמּוֹן וַֽעֲמָלֵ֑ק פְּ֜לֶ֗שֶׁת עִם־יֹ֥שְׁבֵי צֽוֹר

Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre

גַּם־אַ֖שּׁוּר נִלְוָ֣ה עִמָּ֑ם הָי֨וּ זְר֖וֹעַ לִבְנֵי־ל֣וֹט סֶֽלָה

Also Assyria joined them; they were the arm of the children of Lot forever

עֲשֵׂה־לָהֶ֥ם כְּמִדְיָ֑ן כְּסִֽיסְרָ֥א כְ֜יָבִ֗ין בְּנַ֣חַל קִישֽׁוֹן

Do to them as [to] Midian; as [to] Sisera, as [to] Jabin in the brook Kishon

נִשְׁמְד֥וּ בְעֵין־דֹּ֑אר הָ֥יוּ דֹּ֜֗מֶן לַאֲדָמָֽה

They were destroyed in En-Dor; they were [as] dung on the ground

שִׁיתֵ֣מוֹ נְ֖דִיבֵמוֹ כְּעֹרֵ֣ב וְכִזְאֵ֑ב וּכְזֶ֥בַח וּ֜כְצַלְמֻנָּ֗ע כָּל־נְסִיכֵֽמוֹ

Make them, their nobles, as Oreb and as Zeeb, and as Zebah and as Zalmuna all their princes

אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָֽ֖מְרוּ נִ֣ירְשָׁה לָּ֑נוּ אֵ֖ת נְא֣וֹת אֱלֹהִֽים

Who said, “Let us inherit for ourselves the dwellings of God.”

אֱֽלֹהַ֗י שִׁיתֵ֥מוֹ כַגַּלְגַּ֑ל כְּ֜קַ֗שׁ לִפְנֵי־רֽוּחַ

My God, make them like thistles, like stubble before the wind

כְּאֵ֥שׁ תִּבְעַר־יָ֑עַר וּ֜כְלֶֽהָבָ֗ה תְּלַהֵ֥ט הָרִֽים

As a fire that burns in a forest and as a flame that burns mountains

כֵּן תִּרְדְּפֵ֣ם בְּסַֽעֲרֶ֑ךָ וּבְסוּפָֽתְךָ֥ תְבַֽהֲלֵֽם

So will You pursue them with Your tempest, and with Your whirlwind You will terrify them

מַלֵּ֣א פְנֵיהֶ֣ם קָל֑וֹן וִֽיבַקְשׁ֖וּ שִׁמְךָ֣ יְהֹוָֽה

Fill their faces with shame, and they will seek Your countenance, O Lord

יֵבֹ֖שׁוּ וְיִבָּֽהֲל֥וּ עֲדֵי־עַ֗ד וְֽיַחְפְּר֥וּ וְיֹאבֵֽדוּ

Let them be ashamed and terrified forever; let them be disgraced and perish

וְיֵֽדְע֗וּ כִּי־אַתָּ֬ה שִׁמְךָ֣ יְהֹוָ֣ה לְבַדֶּ֑ךָ עֶ֜לְי֗וֹן עַל־כָּל־הָאָֽרֶץ

Let them know that You-Your name alone is the Lord, Most High over all the earth

 

130 קל׳

שִׁ֥יר הַֽמַּֽעֲל֑וֹת מִמַּֽעֲמַקִּ֖ים קְרָאתִ֣יךָ יְהֹוָֽה

A song of ascents. From the depths I have called You, O Lord

אֲדֹנָי֘ שִׁמְעָ֪ה בְק֫וֹלִ֥י תִּֽהְיֶ֣ינָה אָ֖זְנֶיךָ קַשֻּׁב֑וֹת לְ֜ק֗וֹל תַּֽחֲנוּנָֽי

O Lord, hearken to my voice; may Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications

אִם־עֲו‍ֹנ֥וֹת תִּשְׁמָר־יָ֑הּ אֲ֜דֹנָ֗י מִ֣י יַֽעֲמֹֽד

O God, if You keep [a record of] iniquities, O Lord, who will stand?

כִּֽי־עִמְּךָ֥ הַסְּלִיחָ֑ה לְ֜מַעַ֗ן תִּוָּרֵֽא

For forgiveness is with You, in order that You be feared

קִוִּ֣יתִי יְ֖הֹוָה קִוְּתָ֣ה נַפְשִׁ֑י וְלִדְבָ֘ר֥וֹ הוֹחָֽלְתִּי

I hoped, O Lord; yea, my soul hoped, and I wait for His word

נַפְשִׁ֥י לַֽאדֹנָ֑י מִשֹּֽׁמְרִ֥ים לַ֜בֹּ֗קֶר שֹֽׁמְרִ֥ים לַבֹּֽקֶר

My soul is to the Lord among those who await the morning, those who await the morning

יַחֵ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אֶל־יְהֹ֫וָה כִּֽי־עִם־יְהֹוָ֥ה הַחֶ֑סֶד וְהַרְבֵּ֖ה עִמּ֣וֹ פְדֽוּת

Israel, hope to the Lord, for kindness is with the Lord and much redemption is with Him

וְהוּא יִפְדֶּ֣ה אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מִ֜כֹּ֗ל עֲוֹֽנוֹתָֽיו

And He will redeem Israel from all their iniquities

מַשְׂכִּ֥יל לְדָוִ֑ד בִּֽהְיוֹת֖וֹ בַמְּעָרָ֣ה תְפִלָּֽה

A maskil of David, when he was in the cave, a prayer

קוֹלִי אֶל־יְהֹוָ֣ה אֶזְעָ֑ק ק֜וֹלִ֗י אֶל־יְ֘הֹוָ֥ה אֶתְחַנָּֽן

[With] my voice, I cry out to the Lord; [with] my voice, I supplicate the Lord

אֶשְׁפֹּ֣ךְ לְפָנָ֣יו שִׂיחִ֑י צָֽ֜רָתִ֗י לְפָ֘נָ֥יו אַגִּֽיד

I pour out before Him my speech; my distress I recite before Him

בְּהִתְעַטֵּ֬ף עָלַ֜י | רוּחִ֗י וְאַתָּה֘ יָדַ֪עְתָּ נְתִֽיבָ֫תִ֥י בְּאֹֽרַח־ז֥וּ אֲהַלֵּ֑ךְ טָֽמְנ֖וּ פַ֥ח לִֽי

When my spirit enwraps itself upon me, and You know my path. In whichever way I go, they have hidden a snare for me

הַבֵּ֚יט יָמִ֨ין | וּרְאֵה֘ וְאֵין־לִ֪י מַ֫כִּ֥יר אָבַ֣ד מָנ֣וֹס מִמֶּ֑נִּי אֵ֖ין דּוֹרֵ֣שׁ לְנַפְשִֽׁי

Looking to the right, I see that no one recognizes me; escape is lost from me; no one seeks my soul

זָעַ֥קְתִּי אֵלֶ֗יךָ יְהֹ֫וָ֥ה אָ֖מַרְתִּי אַתָּ֣ה מַחְסִּ֑י חֶ֜לְקִ֗י בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַֽחַיִּים

I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, “You are my refuge, my lot in the land of the living.”

הַקְשִׁ֚יבָה | אֶל־רִנָּתִי֘ כִּֽי־דַלּ֪וֹתִי מְ֫אֹ֥ד הַצִּילֵ֥נִי מֵרֹֽדְפַ֑י כִּ֖י אָֽמְצ֣וּ מִמֶּֽנִּי

Hearken to my cry for I have become very low; save me from my pursuers for they have overpowered me

ה֘וֹצִ֚יאָה מִמַּסְגֵּ֨ר | נַפְשִׁי֘ לְהוֹד֪וֹת אֶת־שְׁ֫מֶ֥ךָ בִּ֖י יַכְתִּ֣רוּ צַדִּיקִ֑ים כִּ֖י תִגְמֹ֣ל עָלָֽי

Take my soul out of confinement to give thanks to Your name; because of me the righteous will crown You, because You will recompense me
