The 15th of Av – טו באב

 

In tractate Ta’anit 31 (תענית ל׳א) Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel said: ‘There were no days as joyous for the Jewish people as the fifteenth of Av and as Yom Kippur’

This year the 15th of Av fall on Monday, August 19th, 2024 (Starting at nightfall of Sunday). This is a VERY powerful day to change things for the better with our prayers and actions.

Prayers schedule

  • Sunday night – Rabbi Nachum Ish Gamzu (Tzfat) It’s he’s Hilula (Passing day)
  • Monday afternoon (right before Sundown) – Amuka – The grave of Rabbi Yonatan Ben Uziel

What should be done for Tu Be’Av?

Pay close attention and follow the instructions!!

Sunday night

Light a 24 hour candle for Rabbi Nachum Ish Gamzu (In honor of his Hilula)

Monday Day

From dawn to sunset, read the following Tehilim:

32, 38, 70, 82, 121, 124, 127, 128

לב, לח, ע‘, פב, קכא, קכד, קכז, קכח

Sunday

  1. Light a candle for the Hilula of Rebbe Nachum Ish gamzu
  2. Give charity – Donate here

  3. Read Shir Hashirim (Song of Songs by King Shlomo) Best to read right at sunset

  4. Recite the bed time Shema

NOTE: Highly recommended to read Shir Hashirim for 40 consecutive days before dawn

 

Monday

  1. Recite 7 times this verse (Bereshit 1/4)

וַיַּ֧רְא אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת־הָא֖וֹר כִּי־ט֑וֹב וַיַּבְדֵּ֣ל אֱלֹהִ֔ים בֵּ֥ין הָא֖וֹר וּבֵ֥ין הַחֽשֶׁךְ

 

And God saw the light that it was good, and God separated between the light and between the darkness

2. Read four (4) chapters of Tehilim 31, 32, 72, 124 – ל׳א, ל׳ב, ע׳ב, קכ׳ד
