What should we do on Rosh Chodesh Iyar?
Friday (April 17th) ל׳ ניסן
-
- Recite the Elanot prayer (Blessing on trees) if you haven’t done it yet. – Click here for the Elanot prayer
- Festive meal (wash for bread) before Chatzot Hayom (mid day)
- Light a candle for Rabbi Meir Ba’al Ha’Nes – BEST to light an oil candle!
- The custom is to give charity in the amount of 72 (4 times Chai = Life) to bring Shefa to each letter of the month – Click here to give Charity (Any other amount is fine)
- Read verses of Tehilim (from chapter 119 קיט) eight (8) verses for each letter of Rabbi Meir’s name רבי מאיר בעל הנס – see the verses below
- Say 3 times אלהא דמאיר ענני – Find at bottom of page
- Pray on behalf of other people
- Do Teshuvah (repent) and pray to G-d for anything you wish
Shabbat (April 18th) א׳ אייר

- Recite the Tikun Ha’Gadol prayer (Download the prayer before Shabbat, or write the Tehlim order) – Click here to download the Tikn Ha’Gadol
- Recite the Halel prayer (During Shacharit)
- Have three Shabbat meals (wash for bread) and recite Birkat Hamazon
- Pray on behalf of other people – On Shabbat we don’t pray for ourself.
- Do Teshuvah (repent) and pray to G-d for anything you wish
