Purim Katan

Purim Katan

Sundown on Thursday, Feb. 22nd 2024 – Friday, Feb. 23rd 2024

What should you do on Purim Katan?

  • Thursday evening or Friday morning before 11:30am have a festive meal with bread (Wash your hands). Best with meat and wine. (We DO NOT say Al’Hanissim in Birkat Hamazon)
  • Rebbe Yitzchak Hakohen of Lublin teaches that the Zohar says that even on Adar Alef we have to perform the Mitzvah of Mechiat Amalek (The commandment to destroy Amalek and to remember what Amalek did) therefore one should recite the portion in the Torah in the book of Devarim 25 verses 17-19 on this day (Scroll down to bottom of page to find text)
  • After reciting the Torah portion, you should do Teshuvah (Repent), confess your sins and destroy the Amalek in your heart = Let go of all your bad things (Anger, sadness etc.) and accept Hashem’s love with happiness – Everything will be great!!

  • Rebbe Leib Ba’al Hayesurim said before he died, whoever will come to his resting place (In Tzfat) on Friday afternoon (Erev Shabbat) and read a book of Tehilim, he will ‘operate’ on his behalf in the heavenly realms with prayers and blessings.Since most people can not reach the grave in Tzfat, Rabbi Anava is going to read a book of Tehilim there and can pray on your behalf and mention your names at the holy grave site. Use the link below to submit your names for prayers. The donation given on that page will be going towards food and assistance to poor families.

Destroy Amalek portion

(Devarim 25, verses 17-19)

How he happened upon you on the way and cut off all the stragglers at your rear, when you were faint and weary, and he did not fear God.
